Three Ways to Pocket More Affiliate Cash Starting Today

Previously we have discussed how using our Covert Messenger and Covert Action Bar plugins – or indeed any of our themes and plugins – are some of the most effective ways to generate clicks from your blogs.

Now the purpose of getting your visitors to click on something is of course to make them buy something – and most often that means doing some form of affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is one of the quickest and easiest ways to make money online. That’s because you don’t have to deal with product creation or customer service headaches. All you have to do is recommend products to desperate buyers. Then you sit back and collect your massive paychecks.

But beware: Your affiliate cash can disappear quicker than snow in June if you don’t protect your commissions. Here are the top three ways to start banking more affiliate cash today:

1. Stop using direct affiliate links.

You probably already know that it’ss a good idea to cloak (hide) your affiliate links. Doing so will help ward off the link hijackers who switch in their affiliate ID for yours, and thus steal your commission when they buy the product. It also virtually reduces the number of buyers who “cut off” the affiliate portion of a link and go straight to the sales page (perhaps thinking that doing so will somehow give them a better deal).

But there’s another reason to use direct affiliate links: Namely, because you could end up with hundreds of “dead” links all over the Internet.

You see, if you make a blog post, Tweet about an affiliate product or include your direct affiliate link in an ebook, then what happens if the vendor stops selling that product? You’ll have dead links. Maybe hundreds of them.

If instead you use a redirect link, you can change the redirect link to point from the dead affiliate link to a similar affiliate product in just a minute or two. And in doing so, you could potentially save thousands of dollars in affiliate commissions.

2. Look for these common sales leaks.

If you don’t vet the sales process thoroughly, you may find that the biggest thief is the product vendor! Sometimes the vendor is just a new marketer who doesn’t know any better. Other times, you may find vendors who are deliberately trying to rip you off.

Here are some things to look for:

Google AdSense (or any other ads) on the sales page. Some marketers don’t realize that a sales page shouldn’t have any distractions, and that the only way to leave a sales page should be via the back/close button or the buy button. Other marketers know exactly what they’re doing – you send them traffic for free, and they get the money every time someone clicks on their ads. Either way, avoid these vendors.

Alternative payment options. Another sneaky way product vendors reach into your pocket is by offering multiple payment options on the affiliate landing page. This is only troublesome IF you don’t credit if the customer chooses a different option.

For example, if the vendor uses Clickbank for affiliate tracking, then obviously you won’t get a penny if the vendor encourages customers to call their orders in or use an payment button that is Clickbank integrated.

Customer service reps that send visitors to a new page. Watch out for this sneaky trick: sometimes when a prospect has a question, the customer service rep (or the vendor) sends the customer to a different sales page. End result? You lose the commission!

3. Find out what loopholes the vendor will use to keep your money.

Here’s one last tip: Always read the TOS (terms of service) and affiliate agreement. Sometimes you’ll find outrageous payment thresholds that allows the vendor to legally keep your money until you reach that threshold! Other times the vendor charges a huge “accounting fee” just to cut you your check.

To avoid any of the nasty “surprises” above we highly recommend promoting affiliate products from a reliable network like JVZoo (which is what we use for our own products).

Here’s The BEST Time To Send An Email To Your List

In the previous post How To Easily Build A Profitable List From Your Blogs I discussed how you can start building a list of email subscribers from your blog.

In this post we’re going to take a look at how you can make more money from your email marketing campaigns…

And if there’s one thing every email marketer wants to know, it’s the answer to this question: “When is the best time to send an email?” By the time you finish this article, you’ll finally know the answer.

You see, it’s pretty obvious why this question gets asked so often. If we email marketers know when our audience is sitting at their computers, then there’s a better chance that they’ll see our emails. If they see it, they might open it, click on our links, take out their credit cards and buy our stuff.

And so email marketers try to find the “sweet” spot: That point when the recipient’s email inbox is fairly empty, so your email will be easy to spot. Maybe you want to find a time of the day when the recipient has a few minutes to spare. Perhaps you look for a day of the week when it’s likely our subscribers are sitting at their computers.

But for the most part, it’s guesswork. And just guessing the best time to send an email doesn’t put money in your bank accounts.

If you want to be certain about the best time to send an email, then you need to follow this simple two-step system…

Step #1: Find out when most of your readers are online.

Don’t guess! Instead, go to your traffic logs. Find out when your website is the busiest. And in particular, find out when most of the people on your list joined your list. If you can find a pattern where they joined on a particular day and approximate time range, then that is probably the best time to send an email.

TIP: If you have a global audience, then people who sign up for your list on their lunch break in London is a completely different time then those who are joining during lunch time in San Francisco. If you use a service like Aweber, you can segment your list by region, which allows you to more easily send emails to a global audience. Aweber will also allow you to send out your follow up emails only at specific times relative to each individual subscribers time zone (I highly recommend doing this).

Once you’ve determined when most of your audience is online, you can start sending emails out at that time. But don’t forget about Step #2…

Step #2: Track and test your results!

Just because your traffic logs and autoresponder statistics suggest that most people joined on their lunch break doesn’t mean noon is the best time to send an email. Instead, you may find that your list is most responsive late at night, after their home from work and the family is asleep. Or you may find that they’re most responsive to your offers first thing in the morning.

Point is, finding out when your audience is online serves as a starting point. But ultimately, you need to test your list to find out when they’re most responsive. That means creating identical emails, splitting your list, and sending your emails out at different times of the day (and even different days).

In short: Let your subscribers vote with their wallets. Tracking and testing is the only way to know for sure when your list is the most eager to respond to your offer.

How To Easily Build A Profitable List From Your Blogs

The money is in the list! …I know that saying is bordering on cliché – everyone tells you to build a list.

But they do it for good reason. Building a list of email subscribers really is the most important and profitable thing internet marketers can do in virtually any niche.

Now there are several ways you can use your blogs to build a list. The standard method is to just have an opt-in form on your sidebar much like I do on this blog.

Our Covert Social Press theme has an inbuilt function to serve an unobtrusive pop-under ad when someone clicks on something – and that’s a great way to show them a squeeze page.

There are tons of list building plugins for WordPress out there too, ranging from adding an opt-in form at the bottom of your posts, to showing fancy light box pop-up squeeze pages. Our own Covert Messenger and Covert Action Bar plugins are great for getting people to click on something – and it would be a very good strategy to send them to a squeeze page.

However, all of that is really just methods of displaying your opt-in form – important yes – but only one small step towards getting people to opt-in.

There are 3 additional critical components you need in order to successfully build a list from your blogs.

#1 – You Need An Enticing Offer

In order to get people to part with their email address and join your newsletter. You need to offer them something in return. Usually this means an “ethical bribe” in the form of some free content (report, videos, downloads etc.)

This also has to be well suited to your blogs audience. Offering a report on SEO to people who are reading articles about knitting won’t do you any good. That’s why we usually advocate building many niche blogs instead of one general topic one (at least if your aim is list building and affiliate marketing)

#2 – You Need A Good Looking Squeeze Page That Converts

Even if you have the best offer ever laser targeted to your audience. It still won’t work if your squeeze page fails to convince them that is the case. You need a professional looking squeeze page that both inspires confidence in the viewer and makes them want what you have to offer.

#3 – You Need A Follow Up Series That Convert Subscribers Into Customers

This of course is the whole point of list building in the first place. When people opt-in you need to a follow up email series in place and it needs to do 3 things; deliver your freebie, build a relationship with your subscribers and most importantly convert them into paying customers.

While getting your opt-in form or squeeze page on your blog in some form is pretty easy. Completing the 3 crucial steps above can be a bit hard, especially if you don’t know how.

This Is Where The “EASY” Part Comes In…

Three Proven Ways To Get More Traffic To Your Blog, Fast!

You can have the best product or service in the world. You can have a killer blog that could sell a pint of whiskey to a nun. But if you don’t have any prospects seeing your blog, you won’t make a cent.

That’s why we marketers spend so much time, effort and money trying to put our blogs and offers in front of targeted leads. But it doesn’t have to be that hard… not when you know which marketing methods work best for driving a lot of traffic.

Here are three proven tactics you can start using today…

#1: Social Media Marketing

Savvy marketers know that social media marketing is still in its infancy – and it’s set to explode in the coming years! Those who set up their social marketing campaigns now are the ones who will benefit the most in the future.

That’s because social media marketing is all about building relationships with others and building networks and contact lists. The sooner you get started building a good reputation in your niche, establishing yourself as an expert and building social media networks, the more you stand to gain when you fully leverage your reputation, content and networks.

So where do you start? With the some of the biggest social media sites, including:

* Web 2.0 content sites, like Squidoo. These sites let you page one-page websites around niche topics. Google tends to crawl these pages often and rank them well and they can be a real help in getting your blog indexed fast.

* Social networking sites like Facebook and Pinterest are hot – people spend a lot of time there and if you build up a following you can harvest a lot of traffic from, especially if can get people to share your content. All our covert themes work really well for getting people to do just that – but Covert PinPress in particular works really well as it build on the popularity (and familiarity) of Pinterest, almost forcing people to not only view your content but also to share it with friends and thus generate free traffic for you.

* Social bookmarking sites, like Digg. These sites allow users to share and bookmark content – they can be a great tool in your viral marketing campaigns and for gaining valuable social banklinks to your blog. Our Covert Social Press theme lets you run your own fully functional social bookmarking site on WordPress.

* Online video sites, like Youtube. People spend a LOT of time watching online video and making your own videos can help you attract a lot of traffic. You could also use our Covert Video Press theme to cash on on this video craze without ever having to create your own videos.

#2: Search Engine Marketing

You can pull in traffic from the search engines in two ways:

* By ranking well for certain keywords and appearing in the organic search engine results. This is one of the many good reasons to use WordPress blogs as Google likes the blogging format and often rewards you for it

* By using pay per click marketing to appear in the search engine’s sponsored results (for example, Google AdWords).

You should add both of these tactics to your marketing toolkit. That’s because organic search engine results can provide traffic for months (and even years) after you get your pages indexed. But on the flip side, pay per click marketing allows you to get highly targeted, nearly instant traffic.

#3: Buying Ads

Yet another way to get your offers in front of eager prospects is by placing targeted ads. You can do this by online and offline, including:

* Purchasing banner and text ads on highly targeted niche sites.
* Buying ads and solo ads in highly targeted niche ezines.
* Buying blog ads.
* Buying ads in offline publications, including niche magazines and the related topics of daily newspapers.

This is collectively known as media buying and you can learn more about it in our Media Traffic Meltdown course

Which One Is Right For You?

This isn’t a matter of choosing the one tactic that provides the best results. And that’s because all three of these tactics are proven, time-tested marketing methods. They shouldn’t be used individually, but rather as part of your overall marketing strategy.

While powerful, these three main advertising methods are just the tip of the marketing iceberg. When you use these three alongside other equally powerful marketing methods, you’ll unleash a nearly unstoppable flow of quality traffic.

Why Pop Up Blockers Were The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Pop Up Advertisers!

Yeah I know that title seems really weird… If most pop-up are being blocked how on earth can they be effective in advertising?

Back in the early days of the internet pop-up ads were the most common way of monetizing a site. It was horrible ineffective because everyone hated the pop-ups and would largely ignore them.

The (not so clever) answer was to put even more pop-ups on your site in the old “if you fling enough %&#§ at the wall, some will stick” strategy.

I’m sure you remember those days – when you could visit a website and get stuck in a vicious loop of pop-ups that would not stop until you gave up and restarted your computer.

This of course only made people even angrier and they started looking for solutions… pretty soon pop-up blockers were standard issue in every internet browser.

So why was this actually good for  pop-up advertisers? You’d think it would be the death of the pop-up?

It wasn’t – and that’s due to one of the most powerful emotional triggers in every human being… the fear of missing out!

What happened was that instead of getting all the pop-ups and just closing them without looking and thinking… Now your browser would warn you that something had been blocked and more importantly give you the option to unblock it.

I bet that when you get the pop-up blocker notice in your browser your cursors goes directly up to that little yellow bar to see what was blocked – we all do this, because we don’t want to miss out on something that could be important or beneficial to us.

So the end result was that after the invention of the pop-up blockers, the pop-up ads actually got more views than before (and by that I mean people actually looking at them rather than just closing them).

There is a very powerful marketing strategy hidden in this paradox and that gave birth to our Covert Action Bar plugin.

It’s not about the actual pop-up ad (that is still rather ineffective and there are much better ad forms nowadays)

However the “fear of missing out” still very much applies. Even more importantly, for the past 10 years all the big browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari & Chrome have been conditioning your visitors on what that little yellow pop-up blocker bar means (and that you can interact with it).

This is what the Covert Action Bar plugin mimics. With it you can put a bar like that on your blogs and because of this conditioning and the fear of missing out it’s guaranteed to draw your visitors attention and clicks.

But rather than actually serving (or blocking) a pop-up, you can link the bar to anything you want, which of course is far more effective.

You should be seeing a demo of the action bar at the top of this page – and very likely it drew your attention way before you got to this part of your post. It will do the same for your own visitors.

With people going increasingly ad blind and ignoring banner ads on your blogs – using something like Covert Action Bar is one of the most effective ways to get clicks and sales from your blogs.

It’s one of our most effective advertising tools, it consistently outperforms most other ad forms and it works great with our themes like Covert Social Press, Covert Video Press and Covert PinPress

You have probably also noticed the messenger ad on this blog. That one works really well for similar reasons. The fear of missing out… in this case missing out on an important conversation with your friends. That messenger ad is made with our Covert Messenger plugin and I discuss why it works so well in this post: “What Is The Most Effective Ad You Can Put On Your Blogs?

Both ad forms are among our most effective and as you can see on this blog – you can use both plugins on the same blog. And you can configure them so that the messenger ads only show on some pages while the action bar shows on others.

But for now click on the banner below (or the action bar at the top of this page) to check out Covert Action Bar and see what it can to for your blog – and more importantly for your bank account!
